This video meme is unbelievable catchy. After watching it I was singing “Snape, Snape, Severus Snape” for a few hours. The Mysterious Ticking Noise is a webisode of a popular webseries Potter Puppet Pals. The series was created by Neil Cicierega as a spoof to the Harry Potter book and movie series. After this creation there have be numerous Potter Puppet Pals videos created by fans popping up everywhere.
Potter Puppet Pals (PPP)- “The Mysterious Ticking Noise” is the 16th most watched YouTube videos with over 83 million views as of March 2010. This webisode is the most popular of all the PPP videos. The video won the Comedy award in the 2008 YouTube awards with 61.6% of the votes.
Neil Cicierega, the creator, is a comedian and musician that is most noted for his creation of a genre of Flash animation known as ” Animutation”.
Animutations generally contain arbitrary scenes of pop culture and are set to quirky novelty music.
The video starts with a small puppet of Snape who is a ticking noise and starts to sing his name along with the ticking. Dumbledore, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Harry Potter join in singing their names. Ron finally discovers the source of the noise which is a pipe bomb. As everyone cheers the bomb explodes. Voldemort enters and sings his name to the tune of “Lollipop” by The Chordettes. Yes, this video is extremely corny, but I can’t help it, it makes me smile.
