The new LiveRider app for the iPhone is pretty incredible. The pricey $99 package includes wireless sensors, a shock-proof mounting frame and all sorts of cool features. I think this may be the first dashboard bicycle ever! For avid bicyclists this is definitely a great investment. Especially since each rider can set up preferences to their needs.
LiveRider also enables GPS access, so anyone can keep track of their rides before, during or after they finish. They even have what they call “Chase Rider” which allows you to compete against your previous riding times. For those of you without an iPhone (or on another network like myself), I suggest checking out your marketplace for similar apps. They probably won’t have all the same capabilities as LiveRider, but at least you’ll be able to learn more about your bike rides.

This app reminds me a lot of the Nike Plus application that measures a persons running time and distance. Although, it would be difficult to set up an actual dashboard as you run, the idea is pretty similar.
I’m guessing that as more apps advance and improve their personal measurement functions, more people will be apt to participate in active sports. Apps like LiveRider give incentive to those who may have otherwise been turned off by the thought of exercising. Looking forward to see what other apps are on the horizon.
