I don’t know about you, but I love being wireless. It allows me the freedom to work with my MacBook anywhere in the house. Upstairs, downstairs, and yes, even outside. Unfortunately, sometimes I get a weak signal from my router, and that’s a big pain in the ass, as it means slower performance from my laptop. Thankfully there’s a few things you can do to help boost your wireless signal, and I’m here to break them down for you.
Position Your Wireless Router
Is you router up against a wall that faces outside of your home? Chances are this will hinder the performance of it when you’re on the other side of your humble abode. Try positioning your router in a central location in your home in order to boost the signal and get better performance.
Move It Off the Floor
Metal, walls, and the floor will all impede you wireless routers signal. The closer your router is to these things, the less performance you’re going to get out of it. Try putting it on a desk, or even hang it from the wall, so it’s up off the ground. This may help to boost the signal.
Add a Wireless Repeater
Wireless repeaters extend your wireless network, without the use of more cables. All you have to do is place the repeater between your router and your computer and presto! You’ll get an instant boost to your wireless signal.
Buy an Antenna
There are several antennas on the market that you can buy to help boost the signal from your wireless router. Just plug it in, position it in the direction where you want a greater signal, and this should help boost it to an acceptable level.
So there you have it. A few ways you can help to boost your wireless signal. You can try these out all on your own to see which one works for you, and really, if you have a low signal, you probably should. Why? Because no one likes to wait five minutes for the latest Lady Gaga video to load. No one!
